Students are introduced to the importance of ethics and standards of conduct in doing research. They learn how to effectively complete research ethics board documents for review and approval in various settings. Students will learn to account for the standards of the disciplines, organizations, and professional capacities in which they are conducting research or evaluating programs. Case studies will be presented to facilitate student debate of the ethics of various research situations, and to highlight the sensitivities required in identifying stakeholders and in making recommendations that may impact them. A critical understanding of ethics, including, human rights and relevant legislation, in qualitative, quantitative, and evaluation research will result from participation in this course.
