Survey I is the first of three land surveying courses that students undertake with emphasis on the field component of land surveying. Students work in crews to gain experience in generating industry-standard field records and the tools needed to clearly communicate the field data. Students conduct field projects to learn the techniques and equipment needed for distance measurement, electronic theodolite operations, automatic leveling and basic global positioning. Land surveying measurement systems, computations needed for field operations and error analysis of data are covered in the lecture component of the course.
