The Writing Process: Editing for Writers

This course provides a major focus on the revising techniques that are most helpful to writers, particularly copyediting and proofreading. Students review grammar and punctuation systems, copyediting marks, accuracy, fact-checking, stylistic elements, diction, usage, conciseness, and clarity. Students practice both line-level and substantive editing of a variety of documents (general, technical, online) in a variety of settings (electronic, print). The course also provides an overview of basic document design principles such as layout, consistency, and readability.
