Choosing where to spend the next few years of my life was one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make. It’s hard choosing what you’re going to do for the rest of your life at 17. I originally sought out business programs but I’d always had a love for sport. When I spoke to the Humber Sport Management program coordinator at the Ontario College Information Fair (OCIF), I learned that it was a perfect blend of both business and sport. I immediately knew that it was the one for me. After solidifying my program, I visited many schools when trying to make my decision, but I knew my search was over when I found Humber. I was immediately welcomed with smiles and enthusiasm at Humber’s Open House. Everything was so colourful and happy; it was a community I wanted to be a part of.
Humber is much more than just a school. In first year, it was my first home away from home where I developed lifelong friendships in residence and gained my independence. It’s where I was offered a job as a student ambassador and welcomed into a group of fantastic individuals who I will never forget. Now, in my final year I am proud of my many accomplishments, including completing my first industry internship with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) focusing on the Raptors 905 team.
My program offers many cool opportunities such as working with the North American Indigenous Games organization. We prepare presentations for organizations such as the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS), Adidas, and Coaches Association of Ontario. The projects are consistent with industry standards so I know I am well prepared after graduation.
Everyday my decision in choosing Humber’s Sport Management program is reaffirmed. I don’t know what else I would be doing other than sport and I’m very much looking forward to taking my skills and experiences and applying them after graduation. There are so many areas of sport that I was exposed to that I didn’t even know existed, so I’m now even more excited to explore different sectors throughout my career!
