Update: Humber’s plans for the Summer 2020 term

To the Humber Community,

Thank you again for all your efforts over these past few weeks. I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with the way that we have come together to adapt and support each other during these challenging times. I know it has not been easy. We are halfway through our second week of online/remote delivery of courses and services and many of you are going above and beyond to create meaningful online learning and engagements with our students.

The health, well-being and safety of the Humber community remains our top priority. We have made some important decisions about our planned courses and activities for the Summer 2020 term that I want to share with you.

Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, we will be delivering Summer 2020 full-time and continuing education courses online/remotely. The majority of programs originally offered in the Summer term will continue to be offered. Unfortunately, programs with significant lab components will be suspended. Students in those programs will resume their studies in Fall 2020 or Winter 2021. The updated list of Summer 2020 programs for new and returning students is available here.

Summer course registration will start on Monday, April 27. The Summer term will begin on Tuesday, May 19 and end on Friday, August 14.

The Office of the Registrar will send all students scheduled to study in the Summer term an email by the end of day Monday. The email will contain information including deferral options for those students who may wish to postpone their studies, and a deadline for that decision.

We will plan to continue to offer a wide range of student services virtually including academic advising, health services and library supports. The detailed list can be found here.

We have also decided to postpone our June convocation ceremonies and will hold these in November. Graduates will be mailed their credentials and all will be invited to attend the November ceremonies. We will also be looking at ways we can virtually celebrate their achievements in June.

We are following the guidance of public health agencies and we look forward to reopening campuses as soon as we are able. If we can return to campus during the next few months, we will resume campus activities where possible, but we will continue to offer summer classes remotely/online for the duration of the term.

These are unprecedented times. I want you to know that Humber is in a strong position to navigate this evolving situation. Throughout the uncertainties of the COVID-19 crisis, it is our intent to continue to maintain the employment of all employees with whom we have an ongoing relationship.

Now that we know that students will not be required to be on campus during the Summer term, we will need to adapt our work accordingly. Some areas of the college may have new demands placed on them as a result, while others may have more bandwidth available to help support different work to sustain our operations. We are finding new ways to do our jobs, and we will need to do things differently for the next while.

We will continue to provide you with the latest information in the daily Communiqué and at www.humber.ca/updates.

Thank you for your dedication to student success. The Humber community has come together and has demonstrated ingenuity, patience and resilience at the time when it has been needed the most.

Sincerely,
