Working with 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities (EDIQ 111)

This is a five-hour online synchronous workshop which provides learners with the knowledge and skills to support members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in a variety of contexts. Learners will be introduced to suicide screening methods, principles of “brief intervention” and ways to create brave spaces for greater inclusion. Learners will develop foundational levels of micro-skills in active listening, summarizing, and reflecting in a 2SLGBTQIA+ culturally responsive context.

Date: May 21 and 28, 2024
Time: 6 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Employees in the Workplace (EDIQ 112)

This is a five-hour online synchronous workshop which provides learners with knowledge and skills to better support 2SLGBTQIA+ employees/populations in the workplace. Learners will consider the range of individual and organizational motivations for supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion at work, including barriers to greater inclusion. Learners will also review and practice using cultural assessment tools used to measure 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace.

Your day will begin with a pre-game warm-up on the driving range and putting green and a ‘grab and go’ breakfast. You will then head out to the Legends and Masters, two exquisitely designed and impeccably groomed golf courses, spread across 520 spectacular acres of inspired natural terrain. To recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, the Lakeshore Principal's Office will be hosting a Tote + Paint workshop on May 30. Registrants are invited to stop by the G Commons anytime between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to paint their very own tote bag with the support of host and facilitator, Yelena Mensah. Yelena, renowned for her tote bag painting workshops across the city, will provide an array of supplies and optional designs to spark your imagination. 

The workshop offers you the opportunity to explore your creativity, enjoy a moment of mindfulness, and design a one-of-a-kind tote bag.

All painting supplies - paints, brushes, and a high-quality tote bag - will be provided. Just bring yourself and your creativity! Workshop suitable for all levels of experience.

About the facilitator 

Yelena Mensah is a Parisian living in Toronto. During the pandemic, Yelena rediscovered the therapeutic power of painting and launched "Tote & Paint," an initiative aimed at making art accessible to all. Humber College is excited to host the IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting from June 19 to 21, 2024.

IEEE BMSB is the premier forum for the presentation and exchange of technical advances in the rapidly converging areas of multimedia broadcasting, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and networking technologies. BMSB is a place where people can exchange new information, collaborate on industry challenges and changes, and form social networks.

Humber College Broadcast-Broadband Convergence B²C Lab is a supporting org to the IEEE symposium.

The B²C Lab is a world-class industry research centre designed to explore multisectoral business applications enabled by the new ATSC 3.0 television broadcast standard. The B²C Lab offers leading edge infrastructure including Canada’s only ATSC 3.0 broadcast system—a multiple transmitter OTA broadcast SFN test bed across four Tx/Rx sites, including Toronto’s CN Tower, with the capability to reach nearly 25% of Canada’s marketplace. The lab includes three 5G core networks to explore 5G convergence applications and a vast array of implementations. An RF anechoic test chamber supports design, development and testing of a wide range of antennas, wireless devices, and Prototypes. Together with an accomplished team, the B²C Lab fosters partnerships with Canadian and multinational stakeholders, leading to the development of new products and services in a low-risk innovation environment.

Every week at Nature Camp includes nature walks, pond discovery, art and ecology, camp songs and games, and indoor swimming on Fridays. The weekly theme inspires other activities:

Incredible Urban Animals - Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12, 2024

Kids can get to know their furry, feathered, finned, and scaly neighbours with this week devoted to urban wildlife. We’ll look at the unique survival strategies of animals living in the city, imagine what it’s like to be those animals, learn how to identify animal tracks and signs, and of course go out and see if we can spot some of the deer, groundhogs, chipmunks, frogs, hawks, and many others who call the Arboretum home.
