From looking for affordable housing to finding part-time work, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to overcome these obstacles. However, I the past few months have thought me that the key to success in this city is to let it embrace you. Embracing the city means accepting its quirks and flaws, and recognizing that there is always a way to overcome any difficulty. It means being open to new experiences and opportunities, and being willing to take risks and push yourself out of your comfort zone. |

The crayons have four important emotions are trust, hope warmth, and joy. It is like our life is balance with those emotions. Trust is a colour of blue that is to believe in yourself than others. It makes us feel confident and secure. Hope is a colour of green that gives us hope with promises of growth, prosperity and provides to help us along the way. Warmth is a colour of orange that is to feel energy and love. It encourages communication and creativity. Joy is three colours of yellow that is to feel happy and cheerful. We are supposed to enjoy the moments that bring us fun and be happy with what we have. All of those colours are showing us outside of emotions but inside is the opposite that we may have no colours. We have to let the tears go. | 2020 | Rebecca | Panampunna | Media Communications | North Campus | 07-03-2022

Drawing | Charcoal, Pencil, Pen/Ink | 8.27 x 11.69 inches | Original Piece | During an Indian holily festival called Navratri, I was always inspired by hearing the story of Devi Mahakali in my childhood and now they represent the purest inspiration for the modern Feminist movement. Which inspired me to draw their idol face with my artistry pen. This artwork took time to complete, it has a tiny design which makes it more powerful in the look. Digital Art | Digitally Generated Art | 9" x 12" | Original Piece | My inspiration behind this piece was space, and large, expansive areas like in the cinematography of "Dune" or "Blade Runner: 2049". In these moments in the films, the subjects are quite small, so I wanted to draw something that reflected a small person in a big area. The "falling in space" aspect came naturally as I drew, and just as a fun, absurd imagery that made you question: where is he falling from? What's below him? What's above him? | 2023 | Geneviève | Roy Griffin | n01493698 | Film and TV Production | North | Faculty/Staff, Email | 24-02-2024

Digital Art | Digitally Generated Art | 12.5 x 10 | Original Piece | I'm a digital artist who has done multiple works that focus around fantasy and nature. For this particular piece I was inspired buy a book I was reading at the time which made a beautiful contrast between the strength and vulnerability of a warrior. One quote in particular having really gotten my creative juices flowing "Being a warrior means everything to me but I don't let it define me. When I go to work, I'm who I need to be. The rest of the time I'm just myself." |

Painting | Acrylic Paint, Oil Paint | 16 x 20 | Original Piece | I couldn't sleep recently and chose to paint instead, but what I came up with didn't appeal to me. After a while, I decided to paint something new on top. I blended oil-based deep blue, crimson red, and orchid yellow with various degrees of white acrylic paint to create an eruption of colour. I left an uneven border of the original painting because I didn't want to cover it entirely. Through this piece, I realized I paint out of irritation at times, and that's fine because there's a surge of new energy once I'm willing to move forward. |

I have never really cared about portrait photography or self-portraits but being a model for others in their photography I realized they managed to capture parts of me I never saw in myself. There will always be a constant struggle with appearance, wanting to be skinner, prettier, have clearer skin, need this, and need that. It is easy to fall into this rabbit hole of needing to change things to become this higher version of self. With "The Bathroom" I wanted to draw back to the importance of self-vulnerability. Being ok in your skin takes time and progress is not linear. |

Painting | Acrylic Paint | 11 x 8.5 | Original Piece | A Still Life acrylic painting inspired by modern materialists. The current population tends to focus on purchasing and receiving materialistic items and further forgetting the value and simplicity of thoughtful gestures such as "flowers". The flowers growing within the Jordan 1 sneakers represents the growth of today's society with materialistic clothing and the forgetfulness of simplicity. | 2022 | Nives | Moretto | Interior Design | North Campus | 07-03-2022

Digital Art | Digital Photography | 8in x10in | Original Piece | As a portrait photographer, I look for ways to bring my photographs to life. I strive to make what may seem to be mundane moments become works of art people gaze in awe about. One way I can achieve this is through art manipulation; utilizing post-production processes to add characteristics to a photo that are not visible in the raw image. In this piece, I experimented with a new technique, making it look like the photograph is being torn in various places, revealing what's "under the surface". I felt having a mix of black and white and colour added depth and interest. | 2023 | Ella | Ricketts | N01559912 | Photography | North | Social Media, Faculty/Staff, Email | 25-02-2024

Drawing | Pen/Ink | 11.4 x 15.9 | Reproduction | The eyes of this self-destructive man full of sorrow, staring into the void, reminds me of the quote by Alanis Morissette- "To whom do I owe the biggest apology? No one's been crueller than I've been to me." I had a similar reaction when I read this quote the first time. The realization was both overwhelming and unsettling, and all I could do was stare at nothing- contemplating my life so far, regretting and grieving my hurt soul. The emotion behind this man's eyes, and his state of apparent self-destruction because of poor coping mechanisms were relatable to me at the time and I wanted to capture it. |
