This fall, two new varsity sports teams will join the Humber Hawks crew.
Humber will host the first men’s baseball team, participating in the Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association, along with women’s rugby which has been deemed an "introductory" sport for the first two years, before it’s officially called an OCAA Varsity sport.
“Athletics is proud to keep in step with the ever growing population of Humber by adding programs which give the students the opportunity to compete at the highest level. With the newly added facilities and varsity programs, we are confident that Humber will stay in the forefront of athletics in the country,” says assistant athletic director, Jim Bialek.
Men’s baseball will join a conference that includes York University (Toronto), Durham College (Oshawa) and St. Clair College (Windsor).
Women’s rugby will play against Loyalist College (Belleville), St. Lawrence College (Kingston), Fleming College (Lindsay), and Seneca College (Toronto).
New baseball manager, Denny Berni, comes to Humber by way of the Etobicoke Rangers Baseball organization, and is the owner of Pro Teach Baseball.
Women’s rugby will be led by former Humber men's player, Brett McCully, a two time OCAA Champion with Humber's men's team.
Any current or incoming students who are interested in playing are asked to contact the Humber Athletic Department at 416-675-5097, or email Doug Fox at doug.fox@humber.ca. Interested participants can also fill out the “Becoming a Humber Hawk Form.”
