Humber’s Lakeshore Campus has always offered plenty of artistically inspiring views – and with the official opening of the L space Gallery in the Lakeshore Commons next week, student, alumni and community artists now have a dedicated venue to display the fruits of that inspiration.
“The positive response to the gallery has been overwhelming, both within Humber and the greater community,” says Ashley Watson, L space’s curator. “Everyone has really gotten on board with having this space and developing the arts at Humber.”
L space is light-filled and flexible, and is designed to showcase artwork, provide a small-scale performance venue, and engage the community around Humber with a variety of events.
“The space is so versatile,” says Watson. “Its location within the Lakeshore Commons means that students have easy access to everything that’s going on."
The gallery opens next week with an internationally-exhibited show highlighting the work of Polish actor and director Roman Polanski, including screenings, posters and photos.
Held in partnership with Ekran, the Polish Film Association, the exhibit will run from September 10 to October 5, 2012. The display is open to the public and free of charge.
