Humber Tomorrow - Shaped by the Humber Community

In my May 12 blog, I wrote about our new vision document Humber Tomorrow, that summarizes our current operating environment and outlines the strategic priorities on which we will focus our efforts in the next two years. This document builds on our existing Strategic Plan.

Over the last few months as part of a consultation process, we have had the opportunity to hear from faculty and staff about the future of Humber and what we have learned during the pandemic. More than 700 employees participated in larger sessions and many departments and committees also held specific sessions led by their department heads.

The input and feedback we received as part of those sessions is invaluable. I wanted to give you a glimpse of the themes that emerged, including:

  • a need to continue to develop flexible and digital learning approaches and provide training for faculty, staff and learners to maximize their use of digital learning resources;
  • on going research to inform the best use of various delivery models, including tools and strategies to enhance student engagement, support academic integrity, and ensure access by diverse groups of learners;
  • an identified need for enhanced student wellness and accessibility services and a continued focus on employee health and well-being;
  • details on how hybrid work situations will be handled, including space, meetings and technology; and
  • our work around equity, diversity and inclusion to continue to be a top priority across the institution.

These themes will help inform our current work and future planning.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas as part of this process.The feedback we received will be integrated into strategic initiatives planning for years four and five of Humber’s Strategic Plan. More details can be found at humber.ca/wearehumber.ca.

I look forward to sharing a more detailed update on Humber Tomorrow as part of this year's President's Breakfast virtual series. More details will be shared with staff soon.
