Looking straight into my eyes, he swam a little closer even though the only thing in my hands was a camera. I pushed the button and captured a swan, no other thing in sight. Was he here alone? Is his lover coming back? As I leaned a little bit further, he harried away, to the centre of the small lake. The answer to my questions was silence. No swan songs, no wings flipping, no calm swimming sounds. He was here alone, this lonely little lover." This little piece was written by me on the day I took this photo. Last summer I wanted to try wildlife photography, so I started with the easiest animal I could find in Toronto - a swan. These birds are poetic, the way they bond with each other, the way they communicate, hate, love, protect... As a young person myself, I am still discovering these feelings - loneliness and sadness, and as a romantic, I always wondered how these birds could bond for life. Seeing this lonely swan made me wonder if he just started a new path or was finishing the other. Somehow I got bonded with those precious honest eyes. Oh, this lonely little lover! |

Colour Photography | Digital Photography | 4.5. x 6.8 | Original Piece | The inspiration behind this piece comes from the crushing feeling of being lonely in a crowded room. The bright colours and chaotic environment greatly contrasts with the model's depressed state showing that it doesn't matter who you are in the room with, it matters what is battling through your brain. The blurriness of movement creates a sense of distortion showing how the model feels frozen still while the world passes him by. The disarray of his environment represents the confusion towards his situation and how it seems to be an unbroken, endless cycle of numbness and madness all at the same time. | 2023 | Jillyan | Kuh | N0160704 | Photography | North | Faculty/Staff | 25-02-2024

Monochromatic Photography | Digital Photography, Photo Collage | 8 1/2 x 11 | Original Piece | "The Difference Between Friends and Strangers" is a diptych of the first photo I ever took of Megan, and the last. In the first photo she walked into my frame, a complete stranger, and her aura demanded my attention, the last photo was taken after we had become friends. Our story reminds me of the mythology about the "Red Thread of Fate". About how everyone we are destined to meet in life is tied to us with an invisible red thread. The story tells us about a girl with a scar on her eyebrow. a shocking parallel to Megan, a stranger with a matching eyebrow scar. I met her by chance this winter, having felt drawn to her by an unknown force. She seemed to be drawn too. after our first encounter, becoming friends was effortless. | 2024 | Carter | Gallie | N01628311 | Creative Photography | North | Social Media, Faculty/Staff, Word of Mouth | 25-02-2024

As the world seemed to retreat into a metaphorical cave, I observed that those fortunate enough to emerge from this period did so with increased strength, both professionally and personally. Viewing this positively, it led me to reflect on the idea that "How can we rise if we are so afraid to fall?", we can only experience growth after facing challenges. Much like pulling back an arrow before releasing it, hence the title of this digital art is "Fall to Rise," encouraging the idea of embracing challenges. The artwork conveys the message that we can only ascend if we overcome the fear of falling with a smile. | 2020 | Swetlana | Adhikari | N01583719 | User Experience Design | North | 25-02-2024

Other | Acrylic Paint | Guasha, Paint Chips, Marker, Baking Soda, Cotton | Original Piece | This art piece is my first ever collage. For an assignment, I was given a country to use in the development of a concept for a space I was given, I did some research and gathered images that really showed the beauty of Russia, the paint colours are from the flag, I used those colours as my background blended it a little but kept most of it in, then I looked at images of the Russian Orthodox Church which represents there most widely professed religion christianity, I incorporated the gold, the arched windows and crosses, and lastly I used the most famous ballet theatre the Mariinsky for the white cottons, some how I felt that the illusion of movement with the gold aches, makes a twirl like a ballet dancer, I didn't put much thought in to where everything would go, but in the end I believe it spoke for it self. | 2023 | Latanya | Gayle | N01538324 | Interior Decorating | North | 25-02-2024

Drawing | Pencil, Other | 18x24.5 | Original Piece | Connect is a frottage artwork, formed by gathering the surface textures of more than twelve household objects, using coloured pencils on rice paper. It illustrates my attempt to connect to my fish without verbal communications. People growing up with limited spaces and resources keep small fishes, shrimps or turtles as accompanies at home, while fishes provide very limited interactions and responses. I built undersea landscapes in my fish tank at home, using rocks, wood and fern-like plants, to express my hope to get closer and connect to the fish. I observed and paid attentions to the impacts of introducing new materials to the tank towards the health of the fish. In physical world, some relationships, like elderly and caretakers, teachers and kindergarten students, are also beyond verbal expressions, but rely on the willingness of observing and being patient. |

Painting | Other | 14 x 6 | Original Piece | This art piece came together for an assignment that required me to describe a song that I listen to in art form, the title of the song is "Break My Stribe" by Matthew Wilder, this song would help me through the nights of sleep that I needed to sacrifice in order for me to complete my assignments on time. This song really uplifts my spirit during these times and it made me feel like the work load was lighten and I felt like I could do it all. The colours I choose, are tones and shades of yellow representing what I would feel through the song which is warmth and strength and I believe these colours are a very good idea of what I feel, I am the person looking through these lights or rays of lights knowing that the more I put in the effort to do something and to find time for it the more I grow in it, and that is what I want for myself with whatever I strive for. | 2023 | Latanya | Gayle | N01538324 | Interior Decorating | North | 25-02-2024

The soft light from the lamp illuminates her face, revealing a mix of sorrow and tranquility as she reads his last message to her. Her blue hair, a vivid contrast to the warm tones of the room, suggests a vibrant spirit touched by a moment of introspection. This scene is a tender portrayal of the enduring connection between a daughter and her father, one that not even loss can sever. The letter, a tangible piece of her father's legacy, allows a heartfelt dialogue to continue beyond the barriers of life and death. It's a homage to the lasting comfort that written words provide when spoken ones are no longer possible. Each curve of the handwriting is a testament to her father's life and their bond. As she reads, the world around her grows still, allowing the whispers of the past to fill the room, enveloping her in a gentle embrace of memory and love. The artwork invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of remembrance and the quiet power of reading as an act of connection and healing. |

The sketch started as a formula sheet I was supposed to be making to try to remember them for my exams. As such, the formulae in the background are all gibberish and represent how they looked to me due to understanding nothing after exhaustedly studying for back-to-back midterms. The scrambled thoughts in my head represent what all my notes looked like in my head even after reading for hours. The fluorescent highlights represent the borderline hallucinatory effects I was having from pulling back-to-back all-nighters along with the effects of coffee every 2 hours. The tears are meant to represent just that - tears, since I had 3 exams on one day, and that day started at 8:00 am sharp. As such, I had to cry myself to sleep to try and get at least 2 hours of sleep or else I would have sleepwalked the entire trek to the college and potentially hurt myself | 2024 | JOHNATTAN | RAMCHARRAN | N01474759 | Electrical Engineering Technology - Control Systems | North | 25-02-2024

The platform the polar bears are all standing on is meant to be the final platform that remains after all the ice in the Arctic has molten with the red representing melting, where they are looking out in despair with nowhere to go. The cracks signify this final platform is about to suddenly give way, where there is one polar bear about to fall through the cracks, which signifies their extinction if human action is not taken to prevent it. The orange sky represents worldwide forest fires which are made very possible by global warming and the deep blue below the platform represents the nothingness of the ocean waiting to rise and swallow everything. The tree with birds flying away signifies the reality that animals are losing their home because of the flora being damaged due to uninhabitable conditions. Finally, the half of the tree that is withered signifies the trees dying because of climate change but the half that is green and unwithered shows that there is still time to reverse climate change, as I hope we can do in time. | 2024 | JOHNATTAN | RAMCHARRAN | N01474759 | Electrical Engineering Technology - Control Systems | North | 25-02-2024 |
